Winchester Model 71 in .348 Winchester caliber in a Deluxe configuration and made in 1936, second year of production. This is the early long tang style and has the factory bolt peep sight with barrel insert for sight cutout. Also has factory sling loops, pistol grip with cap and standard "W" style fine hand checkering. This model was the continuation of the Winchester Model 1886 but only made in the .348 caliber and was a strong seller as a large, hard hitting, lever action rifle for big game. This has always been a fine investment firearm and now with no Winchester lever actions being made in the USA the collector interest and subsequent value of excellent condition guns has risen. This particular rifle is in near mint condition for the metal but does have a very few handling and use marks to the wood. I only mention these small handling marks so the extreme purist doesn't tell me on arrival that he can see a scratch or two! I have never had an item returned to me since being in this internet business because my customers know exactly what they are getting. In the thumbnails you can also see a small scratch in the left front of the barrel below the sight and the lower tang has bluing scratches from lever closings. Other than described the prospective buyer would have to find a gun new in the box and without any handling to locate a better piece than this offering. The serial number is 3327.
